Sic Bo is an ancient three-dice casino game of chance originating in China. The name translates to ‘precious dice,’ also known as Dai Siu, Tai Sai, and Hi-Lo. Popular English forms of the name include Big and Small, Chuck-a-Luck, and Grand Hazard. The game is legal in casinos worldwide and popular in Asian countries due to its entertaining gameplay and easy rules.

Players must place a bet on a combination on the table with labeled scoring boxes to play Sic Bo. The game dealer will then roll three dice in a small box and toss them to reveal a combination. If your bet matches the outcome of the dice toss, you win the round. Although techniques and strategies to boost your chances of winning exist, none are guaranteed to work. However, many players find that playing with a strategy adds to the game’s appeal.

How to Play Casino Sic Bo

As previously mentioned, Sic Bo involves three dice and a Sic Bo table, which may look complicated to newbies. Sic Bo maintains common casino game practice: bet on an outcome, cross your fingers, and hope to win. So, where do the three dice and complicated tables come in?

The Sic Bo table has various betting squares and rolled dice combinations with corresponding betting odds. The multiple combinations and outcomes on the table may make it look intimidating, but the rules are pretty simple. Your job, as a player, is to predict the result of the simultaneous three-dice toss.

You place your bet by placing your chips in the boxes you predict will contain the outcome of the toss. Subsequently, the dealer will shake the three dice in a small chest and toss them to reveal a combination. You win for each dice combination or number you got right, depending on your payout odds.

The Sic Bo Table

As you may have guessed, the Sic Bo table is an integral part of the game. You will find the “Small” bet combinations in the top left corner of the table. Small indicates a dice toss with a total between four and ten. On the right side of the table, you will spot the “Big” bet outcomes, representing outcomes ranging from eleven to seventeen.

You will find the “Triple” bet combinations between the Small and Big bet combinations. If you place a Triple bet, you predict that all three dice will show the same number after the toss. Underneath the three bet types, you will find numbers ranging from four to seventeen. When you bet on these numbers, you predict the total of the tossed dice.

Though the possible outcomes from three dice are between three and eighteen, you can only bet on a number between four and seventeen. The table already includes three and eighteen in the triple bet odds. The bottom half includes dice illustrations to show players various possible single, combination, double plus triple bets they can place.

Types of Sic Bo Bets

Small, Big, and Sums Bets

As mentioned above, Small bets indicate a toss prediction between four and ten; Big bets indicate eleven to seventeen, and Sums are for the total outcome. Small and Big bets are even-chanced bets meaning you win one unit for each unit you stake. You lose if you get a triple (all three with the same number) after betting Big or Small.

The varying odds and payouts for Sums bets are illustrated on each betting square on the Sic Bo table. For instance, if you bet on sixteen, the table will indicate the odds as thirty to one. Small, Big, and Sum bets are part of Sic Bo’s low-risk strategy.

Combination Bets

The combination bet is when you predict two specific numbers will be in the outcome of the three dice toss. The illustrations and odds for this bet are shown under the line of numbers ranging from four to seventeen. Payouts from this bet are always five units for each unit you stake, with a total return of six units. Combination bets are also known as Two-Dice or Domino bets and are part of a medium-risk Sic Bo strategy.

Single Bets

The Single bet predicts that the dice toss will result in one specific number on any of the three dice. Your payout corresponds directly with the digit you have chosen to bet on, and a single bet can win different amounts. For instance, if you pick four and the number four appears on two dice, you get a two-unit payout. If you pick six and it appears on all three dice, the odds are three to one. However, it is different from the triple bet mentioned below.

Double Plus Triple Bets

A double bet predicts that one number (between one and six) will show on two dice. The double bet’s odds are either ten or eight to each unit you stake. Under a triple bet, you predict that all three dice will have the same number, and your odds will be thirty to one. This bet has the highest possible odds of one-hundred-and-eighty to one. Both bets fall under high-risk Sic Bo strategies.

Casino Sic Bo vs. Online Sic Bo

Playing online Sic Bo is usually reserved for more experienced players due to the differing Sic Bo symbols. Therefore, it helps to know what the standard table looks like and where each symbol or betting box should be. Most online Sic Bo games require you to make a bet before the device rolls the dice. Once your device rolls the dice, the outcomes will pop up on your screen and alert you of your loss or victory. Essentially, the game is the same on and offline; the only difference is a device screen as opposed to a casino dealer.

FAQs About Sic Bo

For beginners, small, big, or sum bets are ideal because they are low-risk. Other bet options such as combination, double or triple bets have high-risk odds. Therefore, you must take those on once you’re more familiar with the game.
Yes, most online casinos will require cash bets or financial information to verify your game. However, you must vet the platform and confirm its reliability. Start with trial rounds or ‘fake’ money to gain familiarity with how the game works.
The triple bet option has the highest possible payout of one-eighty to one, but it also has the unlikeliest chance of occurring.
